NVIDIA is making significant strides in India, ramping up efforts to create a robust landscape for artificial intelligence (AI) through partnerships with local companies.
The tech powerhouse plans to supply state-of-the-art AI chips and software tailored for diverse applications, signaling a commitment to innovation in the region.
Transforming India’s AI Landscape
At the forefront of NVIDIA’s initiatives is a groundbreaking collaboration with Reliance Industries. This partnership aims to establish a formidable infrastructure for AI applications, crucial for India’s digital evolution.
NVIDIA will provide its advanced Blackwell AI processors to support the development of a one-gigawatt data center under construction in Gujarat. This endeavor promises to enhance processing capabilities and facilitate cutting-edge AI solutions, aligning perfectly with the government’s push for digital transformation.
Jensen Huang, the founder and CEO of NVIDIA, and Reliance Industries chairperson Mukesh Ambani unveiled this partnership during an AI summit held in Mumbai. Their shared vision is to boost India’s status as a global leader in AI innovations, transforming local industries and enhancing overall productivity.
Strategic Partnerships with Indian Enterprises
NVIDIA isn’t stopping with Reliance. Another exciting collaboration is with Tech Mahindra, which plans to utilize NVIDIA’s technologies to develop Indus 2.0—a sophisticated AI model capable of understanding Hindi and various regional dialects. This project is designed to touch multiple sectors, including retail, banking, healthcare, and citizen services, making AI accessible to all corners of the country.
Moreover, Tata Communications and Yotta Data Services are also on board, intending to procure and deploy tens of thousands of NVIDIA H100 chips by the end of the year. Tata Communications aims to blend these advanced chips with cutting-edge NVIDIA software solutions, thereby enriching its AI cloud offerings and assisting businesses in automation and simulation processes.
AI as a Catalyst for Growth
During the AI summit, Huang emphasized that AI is at the heart of India’s digital revolution. He praised the country’s wealth of IT talent and computer science expertise as an “amazing natural resource,” highlighting the “vast potential” waiting to be harnessed. Huang passionately pointed out that India should focus on manufacturing its own AI technologies instead of relying on external sources for intelligence.
In a show of support for Huang’s perspective, Ambani stated that India is poised to become one of the largest markets for intelligence, thanks to its youthful and technically skilled population.
Upskilling for the Future
Additionally, NVIDIA is keen on upskilling nearly half a million developers through collaborations with prominent IT firms like Infosys, TCS, and Wipro. This initiative is crucial for equipping the workforce with necessary skills in AI, ensuring that India remains competitive in the tech landscape.
