At this year’s AWS re:Invent 2024, a major event for cloud computing enthusiasts, Amazon Web Services (AWS) unveiled a series of exciting updates that could redefine the landscape for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and partners alike. From a brand-new SAP solution to enhanced funding opportunities and cybersecurity competencies, here’s a closer look at the notable announcements.
AWS is stepping up its game as we gear up for 2025, launching initiatives designed to empower channel partners and provide tangible business outcomes for customers. Ruba Borno, AWS’s worldwide channel chief, emphasized the importance of partners distinguishing themselves through effective transformations for their clients. “We want partners to be more bullish in the level of transformation and modernization that they’re bringing to clients,” she stated in a conversation with CRN.
Introducing GROW With SAP On AWS
One of the standout offerings is the GROW With SAP on AWS program, specifically crafted for the SMB sector. This solution is all about delivering cloud-native ERP software that caters to the unique needs of smaller businesses. Borno shared her excitement: “GROW with SAP is launching first on AWS and first on the AWS Marketplace.”
This platform enhances integration with AWS’s generative AI services, facilitating the creation of GenAI applications that leverage real-time SAP data. It promises immense value for customers looking to maximize their investments in generative AI technologies, especially within the SMB market.
MAP Program Cap Removed
In another pivotal move, AWS has eliminated the funding cap for partners using its Migration Acceleration Program (MAP). “We’ve lifted the limit on how much funding partners can receive,” Borno explained, noting that this change allows partners to earn more on large deals.
This update enables partners to be rewarded for their ongoing contributions toward customer transformations, enhancing the overall value experienced by customers throughout their migration journeys.
Increased Funding for Strategic Opportunities
Beyond removing the cap, AWS has also adjusted MAP funding structures to provide higher rewards for “greenfield” customers and larger deals. As Borno highlighted, “If you sell bigger deals, you can make more money. If you sell to greenfield customers, you make more money,” recognizing the increased costs associated with acquiring these customers.
Introducing the Digital Sovereignty Competency
Amidst a growing need for regional compliance, AWS debuted its new Digital Sovereignty Competency. This initiative aims to help partners understand and navigate the various regulations that differ across geographic locations. “Many customers are focused on digital sovereignty requirements that vary by region and country,” Borno said, reflecting the increasing importance of this issue.
Prominent partners like Accenture, Capgemini, and Deloitte have already achieved this competency, setting a strong precedent for compliance-driven solutions.
New AI Security Competency
With cybersecurity at the forefront of customer concerns, AWS launched an AI Security Competency to address this urgency. Borno noted the heightened demand for secure adoption of generative AI technologies, explaining, “When I’m adopting new generative AI technology, which partners can ensure me that I’ve got a good secure posture?”
New Security Competencies
Additionally, AWS introduced two more competencies focused on security: Amazon Security Lake Service Ready and AWS Security Incident Response Service Ready and Delivery. These offerings are designed to instill customer confidence in their security posture and incident response capabilities.
As AWS continues to innovate and expand its offerings, the landscape for SMBs and channel partners is shifting dramatically. With these new initiatives, AWS is not just providing tools; it’s enabling real transformations in how businesses operate. The AI Buzz Hub team is excited to see where these breakthroughs take us.
