ElevenLabs Launches AI-Generated Audiobook Publishing on Reader App
Voice AI company ElevenLabs has just unveiled an exciting new feature that allows authors to publish AI-generated audiobooks directly on its Reader app. This announcement comes on the heels of a recent partnership with Spotify, aimed at integrating AI-narrated audiobooks into their streaming services.

After successfully raising $180 million in funding last month, ElevenLabs opened up its publishing program to all authors starting today, following a limited trial phase that began last year. The company’s mission is clear: to provide cost-effective and accessible tools for audiobook creation, making high-quality production achievable without the hefty price tag typically associated with professional studios.
ElevenLabs is positioning itself as a competitor to industry giants like Audible, which the company claims offers lower royalty rates to authors. Instead, ElevenLabs has implemented a model where audiobooks will be featured on its Reader app, and authors will receive payments based on user engagement. Currently, authors earn about $1.10 for every 11 minutes of listener engagement with their audiobook—a compelling offer in the audio landscape.
Competitive Rates and Global Expansion
During the testing phase, ElevenLabs found that users spent an average of 19 minutes listening to the books available on its app. While the current payout structure is aimed at authors in the U.S. and only for English-language titles right now, the company has plans to broaden its horizons by extending payments to works in the 32 different languages it supports.
The expansion hopes to reach a diverse audience, encouraging authors worldwide to tap into the potential of AI-driven audiobook creation.
A Marketplace for Indie Authors
In addition to the audiobook publishing feature, ElevenLabs is also working on creating an online marketplace where authors can sell their content directly. This setup opens new avenues for independent authors to engage with listeners and monetize their work effectively.
Another attractive aspect of ElevenLabs’ service is the affordability of their paid plans, which range from $11 to $330 per month. This pricing is substantially lower than traditional studio fees and voice actor payments, enabling more authors to pursue audiobook creation without breaking the bank.
