Cassopolis Family Clinic Introduces ‘Rosie’ the Robot to Speed Up Prescription Fulfillment
CASSOPOLIS, Mich. (WSBT) — In a remarkable advance for pharmacy services in Cass County, the Cassopolis Family Clinic has embraced cutting-edge technology with the introduction of Rosie, a dispensing robot that has significantly improved prescription filling times. While the closest pharmacy with similar technology is located in Grand Rapids, Rosie’s arrival offers a unique advantage to local residents.
A Game-Changer for Pharmacy Operations
Rosie is transforming the way prescriptions are filled at the Cass Family Clinic. The robot manages everything from dispensing pills to capping and labeling each prescription. This automation allows pharmacists and technicians to allocate their time and expertise to other areas of the clinic’s increasing operations—especially critical given the recent rise in prescription volume.
Pharmacy Director Kevin Klipowicz noted that following the closure of several nearby Rite Aid pharmacies, the demand for services at the Cass Family Clinic has surged. “We’ve seen a huge prescription increase since Rite Aid closed. With five local stores shutting down and leaving the state, we became the only pharmacy in Cass,” he explained.
Meeting Community Needs
As the community turns to the Cass Family Clinic for essential medications, Rosie has proven to be an effective ally. Technicians, like Melissa Wiersma, have been trained to ensure Rosie operates seamlessly. Wiersma praised Rosie, saying, “We could have 50 or 60 prescriptions waiting, and she can process 10 to 15 bottles in less than five or ten minutes.” With no reported mistakes from the robot, it is clear that this technology is meeting the clinic’s growing needs.
The clinic’s open-door pharmacy policy has welcomed former Rite Aid customers, allowing them to maintain continuity of care with familiar faces. “We were able to bring on many of the former Rite Aid staff, which has been a blessing for both our team and our patients,” Klipowicz added.
Expanding Horizons with More Locations
To further respond to the increasing pharmacy demands, the Cass Family Clinic is in the process of expanding. They plan to open a new location in Dowagiac this summer, complete with a drive-through pharmacy to enhance customer convenience. “I’ve spent years working in Dowagiac, and there’s a huge need for these services. We’re excited to bring a small clinic and pharmacy there,” Klipowicz expressed.
Additionally, the clinic is set to launch a mobile clinic this summer, offering both medical and behavioral health services to reach an even larger portion of the community.
