Nvidia and Apple Consider Investment in OpenAI’s Upcoming Fundraising Round
Nvidia and Apple are reportedly in discussions to invest in OpenAI’s next fundraising round, which could potentially elevate the valuation of the AI company to $100 billion. Sources cited by the New York Times indicate that Thrive Capital, an early investor in OpenAI, is likely to lead this investment round if it materializes. Bloomberg initially reported Nvidia’s involvement, while The Wall Street Journal highlighted Apple’s potential interest in the deal.
OpenAI is actively seeking additional funding. Although the organization achieved an impressive annualized revenue of over $3.4 billion earlier this year, it is projected to face a loss of approximately $5 billion by year-end due to its aggressive expansion in AI training and staffing.
The relationship between OpenAI and these tech giants is noteworthy. OpenAI primarily relies on Nvidia GPUs to run and train its generative AI models. At the same time, Apple has committed to integrating ChatGPT into iOS as part of its upcoming suite of AI features, called Apple Intelligence. Additionally, Microsoft, which already holds a 49% stake in OpenAI, may also take part in this investment round.
