Sri Lankan Students Shine at Global Robotics Competition in Greece
A talented team of students from Dharmapala College, St. Sebastian’s College, and Elizabeth Moir School has put Sri Lanka on the global map by clinching the prestigious Zhang Heng Award for Engineering Design at the 6th Global Challenge Robotics Competition 2024, which took place in the historic city of Athens, Greece, from September 26 to 29.
Competing against bright minds from an impressive 193 countries, the team—comprised of Raveen Akuretiyawa, Tharul Senanayake, Heveen Ramachandra, Supul Baddegama, and Malik Radigal—showcased their innovative engineering solutions. Their hard work paid off as they not only secured the award but also finished an admirable sixth place overall in a competition that featured over 100 teams.

The Sri Lankan team’s groundbreaking innovation was celebrated, marking them as industry leaders in a competitive environment. Their creativity and determination led them to the top spot, overshadowing strong contenders from Colombia and India.
