Alliston Students Take Robotics Global: Team 7200 to Showcase Innovation in Germany

A group of high school students from Alliston, Ontario, is making waves on the international stage with an exciting opportunity to showcase their innovative work. The Banting Memorial High School robotics team, known as Team 7200, has been selected to represent Canada at Hannover Messe, the world’s largest trade fair. Scheduled to take place from March 31 to April 4, 2025, in Hanover, Germany, this prestigious event promises to shine a spotlight on cutting-edge technologies and innovations.

A Canadian Connection at the Global Fair

Hannover Messe features over 4,000 vendors from more than 150 countries, drawing an impressive 150,000 attendees. This year, Canada proudly serves as the partner host country, a significant honor that demonstrates the nation’s commitment to technology and innovation. “We are creating an interactive booth that is very Canadian for people to visit,” says Bryan Haas, the Banting Robotics teacher and team’s lead mentor.

With a focus on youth education in technology fields, the event offers an exceptional platform for young innovators to present their work. The Banting team plans to showcase their creation, ‘Goalia,’ a robot goalie that highlights Canadian ingenuity. As Haas mentioned in an email to CTV News, the team is currently upgrading the goalie. “We took it all apart for parts last year, and the new one will be a big upgrade, made out of broken hockey sticks.”

In 2024 alone, more than 70 Canadian companies participated in Hannover Messe. This showcases a robust interest in technology and innovation from the Great White North.
