Burnside Bots Need Community Support to Compete in World Robotics Championship
PULASKI COUNTY, Ky. — Excitement is in the air as the Burnside Elementary robotics team, affectionately known as the Burnside Bots, prepares for an extraordinary journey to Dallas for the world robotics competition! They stand out as Kentucky’s sole representatives on this global stage, where they will compete against teams from far-off places like China, Australia, and Japan. Coach Amanda Cox is filled with pride and optimism as she explains, "This is the world championship."
The Path to Glory
The Burnside Bots earned their ticket to this prestigious event by clinching the Excellence Award at the state competition held in Scott County. It was a moment of validation for the team, as Cox remarked, "It was confirmation to us that all their hard work paid off." The hard work didn’t just stop there; fifth grader Kyleigh Davis, who also competed last year, reflected on her favorite part: "Working with my teammates to solve problems with robots and program them."
The challenge ahead is formidable. The team had to design, build, and program robots capable of playing a game that involves collecting yellow balls, passing them, and shooting them at targets. They were also evaluated on their engineering notebook and had to field direct questions from the judges about their project.
A Call for Community Support
As they gear up for their trip scheduled for May 12-15, the Burnside Bots need the community’s support to raise the $12,000 needed for expenses. Coach Cox emphasized the importance of community backing: "They’ve worked so hard, but without the community support, it’s going to be tough to get there."
