SHREVEPORT, La. – Every holiday season, millions of packages traverse Amazon’s operations, fulfilling the wishes of customers around the globe. This year, predictions indicate that the number of orders could reach unprecedented heights.
As Cyber Monday kicks into high gear, the Amazon fulfillment center in Shreveport is bustling with activity. Amazingly, around a million packages are expected to pass through this facility in just one day. And the secret to keeping up with the workload? A team of innovative robots designed to assist human workers.
These cutting-edge robots are revolutionizing the way tasks are performed, helping lighten the load for thousands of employees striving to meet the ever-increasing demand. What’s particularly exciting is that Shreveport holds the distinction of being the very first Amazon center in the United States to pilot these advanced robots.
Additionally, this center stands alone in Louisiana, where both humans and robots collaborate seamlessly amidst the holiday rush. As the operations ramp up and packages continue to pile up, Amazon is actively seeking additional assistance.
“Our Tier One associates here in Shreveport start at a competitive wage of $18.50 per hour,” said Leonardo Castillo, a senior business partner at the fulfillment center. “We take pride in offering comprehensive benefits from day one for our full-time employees, including 401k plans, medical, and dental coverage.”
Spanning five floors and extending beyond 3 million square feet—comparable to 55 football fields—this fulfillment center is one of Amazon’s largest. When fully staffed, it employs around 2,500 individuals.
On this Cyber Monday, Amazon is rolling out exclusive deals for Prime members, providing access to over 300 million items with free shipping options. Many of these items come with the convenience of same-day or one-day delivery. Last year, Prime members reportedly saved over $1 billion on countless deals.
