### GE HealthCare Partners with Blackford to Combat Radiologist Burnout with AI
In a pioneering effort to assist radiologists, GE HealthCare has joined forces with Blackford to incorporate AI-driven solutions into its True PACS and Centricity PACS systems. This collaboration aims to enhance the diagnostic process, empowering radiologists to deliver fast and accurate results while alleviating the stress that often accompanies their work.
Ludovic d’Apréa, CEO of Solutions for Enterprise Imaging at GE HealthCare, emphasized the potential of AI in medical imaging. “By automating routine tasks like image analysis and reporting, we can help alleviate radiologist burnout,” he shared in an interview with HCB News. By allowing radiologists to concentrate on complex cases, this technology could enhance both diagnostic accuracy and efficiency, ultimately minimizing the risk of errors.
The issue of burnout among radiologists is pressing. According to a 2022 survey conducted by the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), nearly 49% of the 13,000 radiologists surveyed reported feeling burned out, primarily due to overwhelming bureaucratic responsibilities. A significant number also mentioned long hours and a lack of control over their working conditions, contributing to their dissatisfaction.
Understanding the gravity of this issue, GE HealthCare is poised to offer a viable solution. d’Apréa explained that AI-optimized workflows can help balance workloads, resulting in happier professionals, increased efficiency, and improved patient care. The integration with Blackford’s platform means that radiologists using True PACS and Centricity PACS will gain access to a variety of third-party AI applications tailored for modalities including MR, ultrasound, PET, CT, X-ray, and mammography. Blackford boasts a comprehensive portfolio with over 135 AI solutions sourced from more than 50 partner vendors.
“Blackford has established a solid reputation in the healthcare sector for their application orchestration platform,” d’Apréa remarked. “Their imaging applications and AI algorithms are instrumental in enhancing radiology workflows and diagnostic results. We’ve collaborated closely with them over the past couple of years, and we’re thrilled to offer this capability to our GE HealthCare clients.”
This partnership offers significant benefits, as radiologists will now have a centralized hub to access clinical applications that support their work across various subspecialties, including neurology, thoracic, cardiology, musculoskeletal, body imaging, breast, and pediatric imaging.
