Hawaii Welcomes Global Robotics Teams for Exciting Competition
HONOLULU – This weekend, St. Louis High School’s T.C. Ching Gym transforms into a hive of creativity and innovation as high school teams from around the globe converge to participate in the Hawaii FIRST Robotics Regional Competition. This vibrant event is organized by the Hawaii branch of the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST), an organization dedicated to inspiring young minds in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
A Journey Beneath the Waves: This Year’s Theme
Under the captivating theme of “Reefscape,” participants will dive deep into the wonders of ocean life, encouraging them to explore and innovate ways to protect and sustain our precious marine environments. With the beaches and majestic ocean views that Hawaii is known for as a backdrop, teams are putting their skills to the test in designing and building robots capable of navigating challenges related to ocean health.
An International Showcase of Talent
This year’s competition features an impressive 33 teams, hailing from every Hawaiian island, as well as schools from California, Iowa, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, and Canada. Each team has poured countless hours into designing their robots, showcasing not just their technical skills but also their creativity and team spirit.
The event kicks off with practice matches scheduled for Friday, with qualification rounds taking place on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The excitement peaks on Sunday with playoff matches and an awards ceremony from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Everyone is invited to join in the fun, as the event is completely free and open to the public!
