Robotic Marvels: The Indian Army Showcases ‘MULE’ at Kolkata’s Republic Day Parade
Kolkata’s Republic Day parade lit up with innovation as the Indian Army introduced its impressive robotic dog, known as ‘MULE’ (Multi Utility Legged Equipment), on Sunday. Nicknamed ‘Sanjay’, this all-weather robotic companion captured everyone’s attention with its remarkable ability to navigate stairs, steep hills, and various obstacles, showcasing the technological advancements within the Indian military.
Capabilities of the Robotic Dog
Designed to enhance operations in diverse environments, the ‘MULE’ serves multiple functions, including perimeter security, asset protection, and applications in chemical, biological, and nuclear warfare scenarios. This versatile robot is capable of detecting and safely disposing of explosives, as well as supporting intelligence and surveillance missions.
With a payload capacity of 15 kgs, ‘Sanjay’ can operate in extreme temperatures, ranging from a chilling -40 degrees to a sizzling 55 degrees Celsius, making it suitable for a variety of missions across different climates. As noted by Army officials, the Indian Army has already inducted 100 of these robotic dogs into various units, marking a significant step towards modernization.

The festivities began with West Bengal’s Governor, CV Ananda Bose, unfurling the national flag on Red Road, followed by a parade led by Naib Subedar Rajneesh. The event featured contingents from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, along with the West Bengal Police and Rapid Action Force. The Kolkata Police joined in, along with various school students who performed vibrant cultural dances, reflecting the state’s rich heritage.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made a notable appearance at the celebrations, demonstrating political support for the event.

The grand Republic Day parade in the national capital was graced by President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and a host of dignitaries, including the President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, who attended as the chief guest.
