Orbbec Unveils the Gemini 335Lg: The Next Leap in Robotics Vision
Orbbec, a trailblazer in 3D vision technology, has just launched its cutting-edge stereo vision 3D camera, the Gemini 335Lg. Tailored specifically for robotics applications—including autonomous mobile robots (AMRs)—this camera boasts the advanced Gigabit Multimedia Serial Link 2 (GMSL2) and features designed to withstand the rigors of movement and vibration.
"We’re thrilled to showcase the Gemini 335Lg at ROSCon 2024," shares Michael McSweeney from Orbbec. Attendees at the event this week can see firsthand how this new product underscores Orbbec’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of robotics with top-tier technology, ensuring greater reliability and stability for AMRs and robotic arms.
A Robust Solution for Modern Robots
The Gemini 335Lg isn’t just another camera; it’s engineered to meet the unique requirements of modern robotics. At its core is Orbbec’s latest MX6800 depth engine, designed to process visible-light and near-infrared (NIR) camera feeds into a real-time depth map directly on the device. This feature frees up the host system’s processors for other critical tasks, allowing for smoother operation in a variety of robotic applications.
- Resolution and Speed: The camera boasts a depth map resolution of 1280×800 at 30 frames per second. Need even sharper visuals? It can double the frame rate to 60 frames per second at a resolution of 848×480. The visible-light video also runs at a brisk 60 frames per second at 1280×800.
Built to Last
What sets the Gemini 335Lg apart is its durability. With an IP65-rated waterproof and dustproof housing, you can trust this camera to perform in a variety of environments without faltering. Additionally, the camera’s FAKRA connector provides a vibration-resistant GMSL2 signal that can reach distances up to 15 meters (about 50 feet). For those who prefer a more economical option, Orbbec also offers the Gemini 335L, which features a standard USB connector with a range of up to 3 meters (around 10 feet).
Seamless Integration
Orbbec’s latest offering doesn’t just provide impressive specs; it also excels in compatibility. The Gemini 335Lg supports the NVIDIA Jetson platform right out of the box, along with Robot Operating System (ROS) and ROS 2 compatibility through a dedicated GMSL2 camera board. Users can hook up to 16 cameras per host, with assurances of more platform support on the horizon.
How to Get Your Hands on One
Ready to upgrade your robotics solutions? The Gemini 335Lg is currently available for pre-order on the Orbbec website at $429, while the USB-only Gemini 335L is priced at $359.
As we continue to blaze trails in robotics innovation, it’s fascinating to see how solutions like the Gemini 335Lg can reshape the landscape of autonomous technology. Imagine a warehouse filled with AMRs, seamlessly maneuvering through aisles using real-time depth mapping to avoid obstacles—all while equipped with a reliable camera like the Gemini 335Lg.
