Rochester’s Rising Stars: Inconceivable 2530 Headed to World Robotics Championship
ROCHESTER, Minn. – Get ready to cheer! A dynamic group of 38 ambitious students from Rochester Public Schools is gearing up for an exhilarating adventure as they head to the First Robotics Competition World Championship in Houston, Texas. Known as Inconceivable 2530, this talented robotics team is making waves for the second consecutive year at this prestigious international event.
Coach Aaron Nepstad, who has been mentoring and coaching robotics for eight years, couldn’t be prouder of the students’ achievements. “I have not seen results like that,” he remarked, brimming with excitement. “It’s really rewarding. This is a huge achievement for the team!”
Competing on a Global Stage
The stakes are high as these young innovators prepare to compete against a whopping 600 teams, each showcasing their expertly crafted robots designed for this year’s unique challenges. Century High School sophomore Pranya Thapa shared insights about their robot, emphasizing the importance of flexibility: “Our robot has to be tall, stable, and adaptable to its environment.”
Creating the robot wasn’t just a technical endeavor; it was a collaborative journey filled with creativity and effort. “It was thrilling to create something remarkable, and it’s rewarding to see the dedication from my peers,” Thapa reflected.
More Than Just Robotics
Beyond the technical skills, the competitive robotics program offers invaluable life lessons and transferable skills. Senior Finley Bartholmai believes that being part of the robotics team has been transformational. “It has truly prepared me for life and college,” he stated. “I’m certain I want to pursue engineering after experiencing such hands-on work.”
Currently, Inconceivable 2530 ranks second in Minnesota, 79th in the nation, and 98th globally—a significant milestone for students representing a small city like Rochester. “It’s the best feeling to show that even though Rochester isn’t a well-known town outside of Minnesota, we can achieve amazing things when we work together,” said Thapa.
Countdown to Houston
The team is set to depart for Houston on Monday, and the excitement is palpable as they anticipate the championship, scheduled from Wednesday through Saturday. With each passing moment, the students inch closer to making their mark on the robotics world.
