In October, a Microsoft security consultant, Sam Mitrovic, nearly fell prey to a clever AI attack. It began with a seemingly routine notification about a Gmail account recovery attempt, followed by a fraudulent phone call from an individual claiming to be from Google support. The caller provided a fake confirmation email address that appeared legitimate at first glance. Only Mitrovic’s cybersecurity expertise enabled him to detect the obfuscation in the email address, which likely would have led to the compromise of his credentials—and perhaps further access to sensitive data.
Research indicates that AI is evolving into a dangerous tool for those with malicious intent. A recent report identified six attack methodologies where AI exploits the cyber landscape:

Their latest research shows the development of an adversarial machine learning algorithm that helps identify and counter malicious JavaScript generated by AI.
